Goals From Last Week: I partially met my goals from last week in that I have narrowed down my possibilities to 2 topics I am really interested in: Poisonous plants and invasive species. However during most days in class we were working on a group project that would help us learn how to go about researching and presenting our results. This was a valuable learning experience, but I was prevented from being as efficient as I would have liked.
Mentor: As of this week I am still trying to decide which research question to pursue and whether or not they would provide a valid project. Because of this I have not contacted any mentors as my 2 topics are too different to find one person who connects them. Unless I decided to do a project on invasive plant species in which case someone with expertise in Botany. My time was limited this week so I hope to find someone meeting these criteria next week and contact them promptly.
Research/Product: I spent most of my time for research this week on our group research project on gay rights but I also researched my 4 possible topics to narrow them down. I determined that fruit hybridization is hardly ever successful and would not provide an acceptable research question. I also decided that since I had already done a project on an endangered animal in Texas, I didn't want to create a project that was too close to the previous one or too boring since I had already researched the topic.
Goals For Next Week: Next week I plan to finally find a suitable mentor for each of my topics or one that could cover both of them well enough. I want to continue on my unfinished goal from last week to determine some possible project options to help determine which topic is more feasible.
