Goals From Last Week: I could not complete all of my goals from last week as I do not have confirmation of mentorship from either Mrs. Crockom, the poison control public education director, or Dr. Snodgrass, the medical director of the Poison center branch including Harris county. Excluding that goal, I did get my research together and start to analyze it to get some conclusions I can use in my paper or product. I have a clear plan of further research from here to get all/most of my information before the end of the semester. Mentor: Mrs. Crockom has emailed me again saying she will know whether it is possible for her to mentor by the end of the week. As of this moment she has not emailed me back but I expect to know soon. Dr. Snodgrass has not responded to my email at all so if Mrs. Crockom is unable I will have to start my search again or contact other members of the Poison Control Center at UTMB Galveston. Another possiblilty would be to ask Mrs. Crockom if she is unable to be my mentor, if she knows anyone who my be more available to help. Research/Product: This week I didn't do a lot of research , but instead looked over my sources and tried to think about what claims I could make with this information. The research I did was on specific types of poisons to see if any interested me as a focus for my final product. The most interesting one so far was caffeine poisoning which has only recently become an issue. This is probably the least known poison but it doesn't appear to happen very frequently in a way severe enough to warrant its own program. However, since it is a new issue there may just not be a lot of people reporting that they experienced caffeine poisoning. I will have to look into this further during one of my next free research weeks but I hope that it will be a suitable topic. Goals for Next Week: My goals for next week are to start research on educational programs and what makes them successful. I also hope to finally get a mentor and turn in my Mentor Information Sheet. *my website's blog wasn't functioning so it's typed up. Sorry!*
