Process Log 11/2 - 11/6

Goals from Last Week: This week I completed my previous goals by advancing my research, especially in the preexisting programs in HISD on poison safety. I found the commitee site that manages safety in HISD (Risk Management) and plan to contact the manager of Safety and Loss Control, Julie Burris-Richardson.

Mentor: Unfortunately my mentor had to cancel our meeting last Saturday as she had problems with her 2 children. We are currently scheduling another meeting for this or next week and thinking about some possible dates for the other required meeting this cycle. I have my questions prepared and know what things I would like to discuss with her. My product especially I need to talk to her about because if there is already a widespread education plan for HISD, I may need to rethink it and she might have some ideas.

Research: This week, as stated above, I researched how to incorporate poison education into the curriculum for students in elementary school as well as the best way and time for teachers to present about poison safety. Some teachers may not want to take time out of the day to go over this so I an wondering now if it is better to encourage a schoolwide presentation in April towards the end of the year. I also researched about poison safety education in HISD and found the email of the manager of the safety council for HISD. I plan to ask her as well as my mentor about the safety programs in HISD to make sure my planned product, an educational program, is still relevant and would have an impact.

Goals for Next Week: My goals for next week are to write my product proposal after checking with my mentor and Mrs. Burris-Richardson and compile and organize my research to see where to go next.
